Jewish Terror Groups
Palestine Times: May 1993
A significant percentage of the Israeli population identifies with Israeli hate groups. Most of these groups express a hatred of Arabs in general and Palestinians in particular, and openly support their expulsion from Occupied Palestine. These groups include:
Established by American-born Rabbi Meir Kahane when he immigrated to Israel in 1971. It calls for annexing the Occupied Territories after expelling all Palestinians from it. Kahane successfully ran for a seat in the Knesset in 1984, although in 1988 Kach was banned from the Knesset. Kahane was assassinated in November 1990, after which his successor, Baruch Marzel, took over.
After Kahane was killed, his son Binyamin established Kahane Hai as a splinter group, although it is not as large as Kach. Binyamin lives in Kfar Tapuah settlement, but since his recent arrest, David Axelrod, another American-born Zionist, has led the group.
Security on the Roads Committee
A Kach militia established in 1982 by Meir Kahane, Baruch Marzel was its first commander, but now Tiran Polack leads it. This committee is responsible for military attacks against Palestinian civilians.
Temple Mount Faithful
Kach member Baruch Ben-Yosef leads it, running a religious school in the Old City of Jerusalem with about 200 new students a year.
Committee for the Victims of Arab Terror
Kach group which lobbies for the death penalty for Palestinians who attack Israelis.
Followers of Rabbi Moshe Levinger
The leader of this group, Moshe Levinger, is the first settler in Hebron and founder of the expansionist movement Gush Emunim (Bloc of the Faithful). Levinger once killed a Palestinian in cold blood for which he spent five months in Jail.
Sword of David and Iyal
Two underground terrorist cells responsible for attacks on Palestinian civilians.
Represented in the Knesset with three seats (out of 120). It was established in 1988 by retired army general Rehavam Ze'evi, who demands the "voluntary" transfer of Palestinians from their home land. Ze'evi was a minister in the Shamir government from 1991-92.
