NEW YORK (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Bill Bradley, reaching out to an important segment of the state's electorate, signaled Monday that his administration would be a friend to Israel and a supporter of Jewish causes.
(Bradley) stressed the value of Israel to the United States, called for a law protecting religious expression in the workplace and said ethnic diversity helped make America strong.
'We need meaningful legislation to protect religious sensitivities in the workplace,' he said at a dinner sponsored by the Orthodox Union, which represents nearly 1,000 Jewish congregations. `No American should feel trivialized because of their religious beliefs.'
Bradley praised Moynihan's support for moving Israel's capital to Jerusalem, his efforts to win elimination of a United Nations resolution equating Zionism with racism and his work on behalf of Jews in the former Soviet Union.
Moynihan `unforgettably declared (Israel) to be a metaphor for democracy,' Bradley said, adding that he often borrowed the phrase.
